The AS350 helicopter, also known as the AStar, is a single-engine light utility helicopter developed by Airbus Helicopters (formerly Aérospatiale). It is widely appreciated for its high performance, reliability, and versatility, making it a popular choice for a broad range of applications including law enforcement, emergency medical services, corporate transport, and tourism.
Powered by a Turbomeca Arriel series or Lycoming engines, depending on the variant, the AS350 boasts impressive performance characteristics. It is especially noted for its ability to operate at high altitudes and in hot conditions, thanks to its powerful engine and advanced aerodynamic design. This capability makes it particularly useful in areas like the mountains or in desert regions.
The cabin of the AS350 is spacious and can be configured to seat up to six passengers, with large sliding doors on either side for easy access. This flexibility in seating arrangements makes it ideal for various mission requirements, from passenger transport to aerial work, where space for equipment and ease of movement are essential.
In terms of speed and range, the AS350 can reach a maximum speed of approximately 287 km/h (178 mph) and has a range of about 666 kilometers (414 miles). Its flight characteristics are further enhanced by the use of a Starflex main rotor head and a three-bladed rotor system, which contribute to its overall smooth handling and stability.
The AS350 also includes advanced avionics and electronic systems that support safer and more efficient flight operations. With a strong focus on safety, the design incorporates features such as crash-resistant fuel systems and seats, making it a robust helicopter suitable for demanding operational environments. Overall, the AS350 AStar stands out for its performance, adaptability, and safety, securing its place as a preferred helicopter in various sectors worldwide.
